Who We Are

Our History

40 years ago, in recognition of a tremendous need and the belief that no child should go to bed hungry in this community, local women came together to provide food to struggling families.  With the ongoing support of our friends and neighbors,  local churches, schools, businesses, and civic groups we are able to serve approximately 1,800 families per year.

Our Mission

Nourish Food Bank exists to feed families, fuel hope, and nourish our communities through compassionate service, supportive programs and partnerships that create a network of care.

What We Do

  • Beyond providing food directly to families, we are supporting partner agencies  in their efforts to to fight homelessness, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect and other critical needs. We are launching partnership initiatives to provide disaster relief to address emergencies in and beyond our community.  We are engaging with hunger relief agencies across Middle Tennessee and the state to find opportunities to move the needle on hunger in meaningful ways over the next several years.
  • Nourish Food Bank relies heavily on volunteers to carry out our day to day operations as well as service projects such as building a shed, sorting and stocking food, garden maintenance, and cleaning and repairs.
  • Over the years we have grown and diversified our donor base to include (but not limited to) Nissan North America, Yates Services, Vijon, Hennessy, Ingram, Smyrna Bowling Center, the Lions Club, several local churches, Smyrna Senior Center, and, of course residents of Smyrna and LaVergne. Support from these organizations comes in the form of monetary donations, food drives, fundraisers, and event sponsorship.
