Who We Are

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation's largest and oldest youth mentoring organization. We have been the leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century.

Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Our vision is all youth achieve their full potential.

What We Do

The decision to become a volunteer mentor is a great one, and an opportunity that will change the life of a young person for the better. We make a difference by creating professionally supported one-to-one matches for kids who want to reach their full potential. But we can't do that without you. big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee offers 4 different mentoring programs, so you can mentor through the program that works best for you! Currently, all program orientations are virtual.  BBBSMT Community-Based and Sports Buddies programs have resumed in-person programming which includes in-person interviews and match activities.

In our Community Based mentoring program, Bigs and Littles meet weekly on their own and usually do different activities in the community. The mentor will contact the Little’s guardian and schedule a time to meet during the week or weekend. The commitment is 12 months with the expectation that you'll meet with your Little once a week. All volunteers applying for the Community-Based program must complete either their interview in-person.

In Site-Based mentoring program, Bigs and Littles meet weekly during the school year at a Little’s school or after school program. Focus is on providing your Little with one-on-one quality time and attention. The program is only active when school is in session and will resume the following year. To assist Bigs and Littles stay connected, BBBSMT will provide a text-based platform where mentors will focus on providing their Little with one-on-one guidance and support. Our staff will support matches by providing different conversation topics and helping navigate potential issues.

In our E-Mentoring program, you and your Little Brother or Little Sister will meet in person, then communicate online working through a number of structured exercises and surveys throughout the week, from anywhere.

Our Sports Buddies program develops one-to-one mentoring friendships between an adult and a child through participatory and spectator sporting events. Activities are designed to deepen mentoring relationships while supporting self-confidence, goal setting, collaboration, skill development, and healthy lifestyles.
