Stuff the Bus is an initiative providing students in Rutherford and Cannon counties with the tools to begin school prepared and confident. Early childhood education plays a vital role in every aspect of our adult lives, determining income status, state of health and even incarceration rates. More education is good for individuals who stay in school to earn their high school degree or who enter and graduate college, but it is also good for all of us, paying big dividends in the form of increased civic engagement, greater neighborhood safety, and a healthy, vibrant community.
Thanks to the support of our community, the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties' Stuff the Bus initiative has provided over 22,000 local students with school supplies since 2012.
Designated Collection Sites will collect items through August 1, 2022. Sites will then bring their collected items to Hobgood Elementary School on Tuesday, August 2 between 8 am-12 pm. Volunteers are needed to assist with unloading, counting and sorting school supplies as they are delivered. Volunteers should follow United Way signage to the Hobgood gym entrance on the back side of the school.
