Who We Are

VITA or 'Volunteer Income Tax Assistance' partners with the IRS, United Way South Central Tennessee, and our partner United Way Greater Nashville, covering sixteen counties to provide FREE tax preparation and filing.
 
Volunteers are the key to helping our communities keep $3.2 million in our neighbors' pockets! Join our team with Greeter roles or Tax Preparer - we train YOU for FREE!
 
Training is available for Greeter/Intake roles & Tax Preparers that fit your schedule

  • mentor labs for diving deeper and understanding
  • On-site training to reinforce and hone your skills!
 Sites are in Smyrna, Shelbyville, Woodbury, Tullahoma, Fayetteville, McMinnville & Murfreesboro!

What We Do

55 VITA Volunteers helped our community file 2024 returns over a 12-week period in Rutherford, Cannon, and Lincoln County for a total of 3000 hours

 

Results: 

2385Returns filed

$2.431,000 million in refunds went into Clients' Pockets

+ $791,000 in fees saved by clients

 

We offer tax assistance at Smyrna Town Hall, Patterson Community Center,  Shelbyville Senior Center, Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library, Adams Memorial Library in Woodbury,  United Way office of Tullahoma, and West End Baptist of Fayetteville.
